The Gardener’s Friend Announce Their Folding Pruning Saw

It has been a little over 2 years since our business of selling tools on Amazon.com began.

After struggling with our own physical limitations and disabilities it has been an awesome experience helping so many people with similar problems. For the most part, these are mild to moderate hand and wrist mobility issues including a painful experience when or after pruning and other gardening chores.

In the fall of 2013 we launched our first product. Our Gardener’s Friend 3-stage Ratchet Pruners. We simply love this tool (both me and my wife, Nancy) as it allows pruning cuts to be made with great ease and requires little hand pressure to complete a cut.

For me, this has meant being able to sleep at night as before I started using this tool my hands were terribly numb and painful for hours, particularly when lying down.

So this brought us to our question of “what tool should come next in our arsenal?”

The decision was simple. Our next great and awesome tool that we also love and use daily in our nursery is what we refer to as our D-saw, (because of its “D” shaped handle.).

This is a great lightweight folding pruning saw that folds and can be carried in one’s pocket or easily hung on the belt. It is about 8” long and has a good sharp saw blade.

This saw has a very effective working lock that latches the saw shut when not in use an also locks it open to use. This is a super safety feature as any folding saw that is not locked open can be dangerous if it colapses unexpectedly.

It is very easy to open and close, you just push the button and pull the blade around and do the opposite to close the blade and lock it closed.

We use sharp hand tools all the time and I can tell you with authority that you should wear good heavy gardening gloves. One slip of the pruning saw or garden shears and you can have a nasty cut to the hands or worse.

Just do it, wear glove, every time!

Like any tool, this pruning hand saw should be stored properly when not in use and it is a very good idea to apply a coating of oil to the blade and a drop to the pivot point and lock button. Not much, just a drop of light mineral oil. If put away or closed when still wet the blade will rust and this means that the teeth will dull. Make sure the tool is dry and a little oil goes a long way.

But what is really great about this saw is the easy grip of the two parts of the handle. This makes for really easy two-handed cutting. It allows a great measure of control for this activity when making a saw cut. Now of course, sometimes you must hold the branch being cut so one handed use is sometime necessary.

This is a light weight saw. If used incorrectly the blade will bend or break. It is not meant to be a pry bar or a screwdriver or a hammer. It is made to cut wood only, not sheet metal, not plastic (though I suspect it would work ok on some type of plastic).

Basically, if used correctly and cared for this tool should last forever. If abused, it will not last long at all, like any tool. We highly recommend this product for landscapers needing a quick and easy trimming saw, nurseries doing light pruning cuts, for home use it is ideal and super great for camping, backpacking or hiking.
